Digital Preservation of Archival Records

Scientific handling, high-resolution digitization, and archival-grade delivery for manuscripts, registers, maps, copper plates, palm-leaf texts, and more — delivered from our in-house labs or through our mobile Sanjeevani Heritage Raths.

Who is this for?

Libraries, archives, temples, private collectors, trusts, academic institutions, and government departments holding fragile or historically significant material that needs to be safeguarded, digitized, indexed, and made accessible for future research and reference.

Public & Private Libraries Temples & Religious Institutions State/National Archives Genealogy & Land Records Museums & Universities

What do we preserve & digitize?

  • Handwritten manuscripts (paper, cloth, palm-leaf)
  • Registers, ledgers, revenue & court records
  • Copper plate inscriptions & metal records
  • Maps, diagrams, charts, and plans
  • Printed but rare/out-of-print books
  • Photographs, negatives, microfilms (selective)
  • Temple & monastery archives
  • Family-held personal archives

How we work (Typical Workflow)

1. Assessment & Planning
  • Physical condition assessment (fungus, tears, acidity, brittleness)
  • Feasibility & risk analysis (on-site vs. in-lab)
  • Defining imaging specs (dpi, bit depth, color profile)
  • Metadata schema and file-naming conventions
2. Conservation Prep (If Authorized)
  • Surface cleaning, humidity control, pest mitigation
  • Deacidification / flattening (as applicable)
  • Protective sleeves and handling protocols
3. Digitization
  • DSLR/mirrorless rigs with copy stand & book cradle
  • Calibrated lighting and color targets
  • OCR (where scripts/quality permit)
  • Versioning: RAW → Master (TIFF) → Access derivatives (PDF/JPEG/JPEG2000)
4. Post-Processing & QA
  • Color correction, crop, deskew, dewarping
  • Metadata tagging (Dublin Core/METS/Custom)
  • Quality control against agreed benchmarks
5. Packaging & Delivery
  • Delivery in structured folders with index & logs
  • Encrypted hard drives / NAS / cloud delivery
  • Preservation-grade formats (Master & Access copies)
6. Long-term Archival Advisory
  • Recommendations on long-term storage strategy
  • Backup policy, checksums, and fixity verification
  • Access workflows & publication readiness
